Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department attempted to contact an adult male, known to have active warrants for his arrest, in the 500 block of Willow Road when the male fled on foot into a nearby house at approximately 12:25 p.m. on 11/29/23. The Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff’s Office attempted to make contact with the male, who refused to cooperate with law enforcement officers. The Grand Junction Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the scene and the male was taken into custody a short time later. Lucas Whitney, age 38, was arrested on six active warrants and charged with Obstruction and Resisting Arrest. He was remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility.
The Grand Junction Police Department also contacted multiple individuals who exited the residence, several of whom were arrested on active warrants with additional charges pending.
The Grand Junction Police Department obtained a search warrant and located illegal drugs and paraphernalia in the residence. A shelter-in-place was issued for the surrounding area while officers were on scene. The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident. This incident remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
