Candlewood Update: Man Arrested for Homicide in Attack

From the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office:

Deputies with the Mesa County Sheriffโ€™s Office responded to a report of an assault occurring at Candlewood Trailer Park, located at 424 32 Road in Clifton, Wednesday, July 31, 2024.

At 7:46 pm, a woman called 911, stating two people were being assaulted by an adult male in front of their home.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult female with multiple injuries and an adult male who was severely injured and unresponsive. CPR was administered, but unfortunately, efforts were unsuccessful, and the male was pronounced dead at the scene. The female was taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

Deputies quickly located the suspect in the area.ย  He agreed to speak with investigators and was transported to the Mesa County Sheriffโ€™s Office, where he was interviewed.ย 

William Lovett, 25, was subsequently arrested and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he is being held on the following charges:

  • Murder in the Second Degree Not Heat of Passion
  • Menacing
  • Assault in the Third Degree
  • Third-degree
  • Criminal Trespass

The Mesa County Coronerโ€™s Office is responsible for determining the cause and manner of death and identity of the victim.

This remains an active investigation.
