The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office and the Town of Collbran are proud to announce an agreement for the Sheriff’s Office to provide law enforcement services in the Town of Collbran, effective August 1, 2024. Mesa County Sheriff Todd Rowell and Collbran Mayor Kendall Wilcox are excited about the opportunity for the citizens of Collbran to have an expanded, professionally managed law enforcement presence that will improve the safety and security of residents.
This new partnership developed after the Collbran Town Marshal retired in October of 2023. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office worked with the Town of Collbran to provide emergency services over the past ten months to allow Collbran’s leadership the opportunity to perform a search to replace the town’s public safety services. Ultimately, it was determined that due to the difficulty of recruiting and training experienced law enforcement personnel, the most cost-effective and efficient option was to partner with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office to provide services for the town. On July 16, 2024, the Collbran Board of Trustees, in a unanimous decision, voted to enter into an annually renewable agreement with Mesa County for law enforcement services.
In addition to providing two dedicated Deputy Sheriff positions assigned to the Town, the Sheriff’s Office will be a one-stop resource for Town residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Residents can call regional dispatch at (970)242-6707. Residents of Collbran and the Plateau Valley will be able to request non-emergency law enforcement assistance for matters like animal control, VIN inspections, and civil standby. The Deputies serving in Collbran will also be attending training from The National Association of School Resources Officers and can assist in events requiring law enforcement presence at the school.
