From the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office:

At approximately 10:15 p.m. on August 20, 2024, law enforcement responded to a call to assist with a Robbery in Progress at the DeBeque Maverick store (formerly the Kum and Go Convenience Store), located at 4530 Highway 6 & 24 in DeBeque.

Dispatch advised that a male had entered the location, assaulted the store employee, and stolen several items. Shortly after arriving on scene a DeBeque Deputy Marshal aired that he had a male at Taser point and was requesting immediate assistance.  Deputies from the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado State Patrol, and the Palisade Police Department all responded emergent to the location.

Upon arrival, law enforcement immediately contacted the suspect and discovered that the Deputy Marshal had also been assaulted and severely injured.  He was transported to the hospital, where he is being treated for severe injuries. The 27-year-old store employee suffered several injuries from the assault and was able to be treated on scene by paramedics.

David Dainty-Guilfoyle, 18, of Mancos, Colorado, was contacted and immediately taken into custody.  He was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he is being held on charges of:

  • Robbery, F4
  • Assault – 2nd Degree on a Police Officer, F4
  • Assault in the 3rd Degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer, Firefighter or Emergency Personnel
  • Theft – Less than $300

This case remains open and ongoing. Further information will be released as it becomes available. A mugshot of the suspect is not available at this time.
