Police Investigating Assault at Department of Human Services

Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of an assault in progress at the Department of Human Services (DHS), located at 510 29 ยฝ Rd, on 10/04/24 at approximately 12:00 p.m. Reporting parties stated an adult male suspect became angry with employees in the lobby, verbally assaulting and spitting on them. A bystander confronted the suspect, who then reached into a backpack for a baseball bat and began striking the bystander several times with the bat. The bystander took the bat away from the suspect, struck him with the bat, and left the area on foot. Officers arrived on scene and took the suspect into custody. He was transported to the hospital with unknown injuries. Officers contacted the bystander a short distance away from DHS, who was also transported to a local hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department for treatment of the injuries sustained in the assault. This investigation into this incident remains open. The names of the individuals involved are not being released at this time until formal charges are filed.

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. There is no further information available at this time.
