From the Grand Junction Police Department:
On 10/07/24, at approximately 4:35 p.m., dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center received a report of a felony menacing at Canvas Credit Union located at 2302 North Avenue. The reporting party stated a juvenile riding a bicycle approached them and pointed a gun at them before riding away. A short time later, dispatchers received a call in which a different reporting party stated two juveniles on bicycles approached them at Rocket Park, located at 1827 N 26th Street, and pointed a gun at them. Officers arrived at Rocket Park and contacted the two juveniles matching the description given in both incidents. One of the juveniles pointed what looked to be a firearm at an officer. The Grand Junction Police officer was able to gain compliance and detain the juveniles without any use of force. Officers discovered one of the juveniles to be in possession of a simulated firearm. One juvenile, age 13, was taken into custody and transported to the Division of Youth Services where the juvenile was charged with multiple counts of felony menacing and related charges. The other juvenile was released with no charges.
The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community. This case remains active and under investigation. Because the individual taken into custody is a juvenile, the identity of the juvenile will not be released in accordance with the Colorado Open Records Act laws. There is no additional information available.
