Update: Heavy Law Enforcement Presence at Motel 6 on Horizon Drive

Police, sheriff, and the SWAT team are scene at Motel 6 on Horizon Drive attempting to contact multiple suspects that have outstanding warrants. The Motel 6 has been evacuated while law enforcement works to capture their suspects.

From the Grand Junction Police Department:

On 10/16/2024, at approximately 08:40 a.m., law enforcement officers with the Mesa County Sheriffโ€™s Office and the Grand Junction Police Department were on scene at the Motel 6, located at 776 Horizon Drive, to contact two individuals with active warrants. The two individuals proceeded to barricade themselves in a hotel room, refusing to cooperate with law enforcement officers. Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriffโ€™s Office SWAT teams and crisis negotiators were dispatched to the scene to assist. After several hours, the two individuals, identified as Jake Rodriguez (age 33) and Vanessa Zubiate (age 39) were taken into custody without incident. Rodriguez and Zubiate were transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility on their active warrants, with additional charges pending.

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. There is no additional information available at this time.
