Two Suspects Charged in Palisade Drug Deal Shooting

November 4, 2024-CBI- Palisade, CO – Palisade Police and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation have arrested two individuals for their role in an October 8th shooting that nearly left a 54-year-old woman dead.
Zachary David Bayhan, a 27-year-old from Delta, and Jamie Hopper, age 32 from Hotchkiss, each face numerous counts for what investigators believe was a drug deal gone bad.
Bayhan’s charges include Attempted Murder in the Second-Degree, First-Degree Assault, Aggravated Robbery, Criminal Attempt of Aggravated Robbery, Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, two counts Felony Menacing and Motor Vehicle Theft.
Hopper’s charges include, First Degree Assault, Aggravated Robbery, Criminal Attempt of Aggravated Robbery and two counts of Felony Menacing.
Investigators believe Bayhan and Hopper wanted to obtain drugs from the victim but did not intend to pay for them. The pair allegedly arranged for another man (age 26) to introduce the couple to the 54-year-old woman near storage facility in the 200 block of West 3rd Street.
During the alleged drug transaction, investigators believe Bayhan shot at the 54-year-old woman as she drove away. Investigators then learned Bayhan stole the car of the 26 year old man and led law enforcement on a high-speed chase until he was eventually caught and arrested in Delta County.
The 54-year-old woman, who was shot in the shoulder, crashed her car at the Golden Gate Gas Station on Elberta Avenue in Palisade but is expected to recover.
The charges are, merely accusations and both suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
