From the Grand Junction Fire Department:
At 3:39 a.m., the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of smoke in the basement of a multi-unit apartment building located at 207 North 9th Street.
Upon arrival, firefighters found occupants already evacuating the building. Crews quickly investigated the basement, discovering light smoke but no active fire. Evidence pointed to improperly discarded smoking materials as the cause. Crews promptly extinguished hot spots and conducted a thorough search to ensure the fire had not spread. There were no injuries because of the fire.
