Vehicle vs Building, Belford Ave & N 26th St

White sedan has crashed into a building at Belford Avenue and North 26th Street. Building is possibly a closed daycare business. Both occupants have fled the scene leaving their car inside the building. The vehicle is leaking fuel and also damaged the fire hydrant on the corner. Police have located a suspect with a possible head injury.

On November 20, 2024, at approximately 10:00 p.m., first responders with the Grand Junction Police Department and the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to the area of 26th Street and Belford Avenue for reports of a vehicle crashed into a building.  

When officers arrived on scene, they found a white Nissan Maxima had crashed into Creative Avenues, located at 835 N 26th Street, resulting in significant damage to the business. The building was unoccupied. The driver, Adrian Lopez, age 19, fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Lopez was located in a nearby apartment complex and was taken into custody. The passenger was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Adrian Lopez was arrested and remanded to Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Failed to Remain on Scene at Accident Involving Injuries
  • Left Scene after Striking Property
  • Reckless Driving
  • Driving Under the Influence
  • Obstructing a Peace Officer
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Open Container in Motor Vehicle
  • First Degree Criminal Trespass
  • Minor in Possession

The Grand Junction Police Department determined alcohol to be a factor in this crash. This is an isolated incident and there is no further information at this time.
