On 12/19/24, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a vehicle vs pedestrian crash occurred at the intersection of N 1st Street and Orchard Avenue, initially believed to involve minor injuries. The victim, a West Middle School student, was initially assessed at the scene and transported to the hospital for treatment. Upon further medical evaluation, it was determined the injuries sustained classified as serious bodily injury.
Following an investigation into the cause of the crash, it was determined that the driver was operating the vehicle in a careless manner. As a result, the driver, identified as Heather Hurst (age 39), was arrested and released on a summons for Careless Driving Causing Serious Bodily Injury to a Vulnerable Road User.
The victim is recovering at home from her injuries.
