From the Grand Junction Police Department:
On 6/25/24, at approximately 2:30 a.m., first responders from the Grand Junction Police Department and Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of North Avenue and I70B. The vehicle had struck a traffic signal pole at the intersection, and officers arrived to find the vehicle fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters from the Grand Junction Fire Department extinguished the fire. One person was found deceased in the vehicle and two additional people were transported to the hospital with suspected serious bodily injuries.
On 1/15/25, after months of extensive investigation efforts involving witness interviews and evidence collection, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department located and contacted the suspected driver of the vehicle, Pablo Madrid, aged 29. Madrid was arrested and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following and other related charges:
- Vehicular Homicide While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs
- Vehicular Homicide While Driving in a Reckless Manner
- Vehicular Assault-DUI
- Vehicular Assault โ Reckless
- Driving Under Influence Per Se โ W/ 3+ Priors ย
- Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Aggravated Driving with Revoked License
The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident and there is no further information at this time.
