Police Arrest Man on Additional Charges for New Year’s Arson

From the Grand Junction Police Department:

On January 1, 2025, Grand Junction Police officers responded to a report of an assault in progress at the Grand Manor Apartments located at 2828 Orchard Avenue. A female resident reported that a known male suspect, in violation of a restraining order, forcibly entered her second-floor apartment and assaulted another man. During the altercation, the suspect grabbed a knife from inside the apartment, prompting the female and male to flee the building.

The suspect barricaded himself in the apartment as officers arrived at the scene. Shortly after, a fire was ignited within the apartment, and the suspect jumped out of a second-floor window where officers promptly took him into custody.

The suspect, Justin Vicino (age 44), was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants and Violation of a Protection Order. He was transported to the hospital to receive treatment for serious bodily injuries sustained from the fire and fall.

Following a thorough investigation, the Grand Junction Police Department determined Vicino intentionally started the fire in the apartment, resulting in significant damage and endangering occupied neighboring apartments. The Grand Junction Police Department applied for and was granted a warrant for the arrest of Vicino with additional charges related to this incident.

Upon release from the hospital on 01/17/25, Vicino was taken to the Mesa County Detention Facility where he was booked on the following charges:

  • Attempted Murder in the 1st Degree
  • 1st Degree Burglary
  • 1st Degree Arson
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Menacing
  • Assault in the 3rd Degree
  • Violation of a Protection Order

The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. There is no further information available at this time.
