On January 31, 2025, at approximately 5:40 a.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the area of N 12th Street and Patterson Road on a vehicle that was reported stolen a week prior. The vehicle eluded officers and a short time later, officers received a report of a rollover crash at the corner of 27 ยฝ Road and 27 ยฝ Court. Officers discovered this was the same vehicle that eluded the traffic stop.
After the crash, the driver of the rolled vehicle attempted to enter a nearby home but was unsuccessful. Officers quickly arrived on scene, and the suspect fled into a small field and was taken into custody without further incident. The Grand Junction Fire Department transported the suspect, identified as Gilberto Calvillo-Rodriguez (age 21), to a hospital for evaluation of injuries related to his crash. Once released from the hospital, Calvillo-Rodriguez was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility on outstanding warrants and the following offenses:
- Vehicular Eluding
- 2ndย Degree Motor Vehicle Theft
- Hit and Run Failed to Remain at Scene
- 1stย Degree Criminal Trespass of Inhabited Dwelling
- Criminal Attempt
The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing danger to the public. There is no further information available at this time.
