JunctionNow has learned that prior to the incident, suspect Adam Winningham had ran up $170+ bill including multiple meals, to-go orders, and alcohol for himself and two other individuals. He also stiffed the server on a tip, even with / in addition to, leaving counterfeit money.
From the Grand Junction Police Department:
Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of a felony menacing at Red Robin, located at 2530 Rimrock Avenue, at approximately 10:30 p.m., on March 7, 2025. Officers arrived on scene and learned a male suspect attempted to pay his bill with counterfeit money. When confronted by an employee outside the restaurant, the suspect reached into the back of a truck, grabbed a metal pole, and swung the pole at the employee. The employee was not injured in this incident.
Officers located the suspect, Adam Winningham (39), a short time later at the nearby Rimrock Walmart. He was found in possession of additional counterfeit money and multiple credit cards that did not belong to him.

Winningham was arrested and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
- Forgery
- Theft
- Assault in the Third Degree (Criminal Attempt)
- Felony Menacing
- Assault in the Second Degree (Criminal Attempt)
- Felony Tampering with Physical Evidence
- Criminal Possession of Three or More Transaction Devices
- Criminal Possession of Identifying Documents
- Criminal Possession of Forged Instrument
- Unlawful Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance
This is an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
