Police Respond to Firearm Incident at Caprock Academy

From the Grand Junction Police Department:

On March 27, 2025, at approximately 8:15 a.m., School Resource Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to Caprock Academy, located at 714 24 ½ Road, after receiving a report of a weapon on campus.

School staff observed a juvenile displaying suspicious behavior and, upon further inquiry, discovered a handgun in the student’s backpack. Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded immediately and safely secured the firearm.

Following the investigation, Melinda Moreno (age 33) was arrested and released on a summons for failure to comply with Secure Firearm Storage Required.

There were no injuries in this incident. This incident remains under investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
