
Report of a male with a shotgun at a residence on Orchard Ave, possibly pointing the weapon at passing vehicles. Police are on scene and in contact with the suspect. The suspect is now safely in police custody and might also have an outstanding warrant. Orchard Avenue Elementary, located several blocks away, was placed on a short shelter-in-place during the incident.

On April 1, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of felony menacing in the 2200 block of Orchard Avenue. Dispatchers with the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center received multiple reports of a man waving a firearm outside.
Officers from the Grand Junction Police Department, along with deputies from the Mesa County Sheriffโs Office, arrived on scene and located an adult male pointing a plastic airsoft rifle at passing vehicles. Officers swiftly took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Dion Martinez (age 41) was arrested and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility, where he was booked on outstanding warrants, felony menacing, and other related charges.
As a precaution, a temporary shelter-in-place order was issued for the surrounding area but has since been lifted. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to public safety. This case remains under investigation, and no further information is available at this time.
