From the Grand Junction Police Department:
On the morning of May 14, 2025, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a reported road rage incident near the intersection of 29 Road and Patterson Road.
At approximately 8:35 a.m., dispatchers at the Grand Junction Regional Communication Center received a call reporting that a motorcycle had rear-ended a truck. Through investigation, officers learned that the motorcyclist had legally performed a lane filtering maneuver between two vehicles stopped at a red light in the area of 27 ยฝ Road and Patterson Road.
According to witnesses, the driver of a truck attempted to strike the motorcyclist multiple times with his vehicle while in the roadway. A short time later, the same truck made an abrupt stop in a turn lane near 29 Road and Patterson Road, causing the motorcyclist to collide with the back of the truck. The motorcyclist sustained suspected minor injuries.
As a result of the incident:
- The truck driver was arrested and released on a summons for Reckless Endangerment.
- The motorcyclist was arrested and released on a summons for No Motorcycle Endorsement and No Proof of Insurance.
The Grand Junction Police Department would like to remind the community that lane filtering is legal in Colorado. Lane filtering allows motorcyclists to pass between vehicles stopped on the roadway and traveling in the same direction.
We urge all drivers to remain calm and avoid any actions that could endanger others. Road rage can escalate quickly and create unnecessary risks for everyone on the road.
