
Multiple callers reporting a shooting in the area of Lois Street and I-70 Business Loop in Clifton. At least 6 shots heard, one caller reporting they were shot at, possibly from a dark SUV parked in front of a residence on Lois Street. Deputies arriving on scene held at least one male suspect at gun point until taking him safely into custody. At least 2 suspects are currently detained by law enforcement. Grand Junction Police sent the Sheriff’s Office two patrol units as backup.
No one was injured during the incident. Deputies have multiple suspects from a residence in custody and have recovered a rifle.

CLIFTON, CO – On June 16, 2025, at approximately 5:20 a.m., Deputies with the Mesa County Sheriffโs Office responded to multiple reports of shots fired on the 600 block of Lois Street in Clifton, Colorado.
Deputies quickly secured the scene and found [no individuals injured or] shot. During their preliminary investigation, Deputies took custody of a single rifle.
At this time, there is no outstanding threat to the community. This is believed to be an isolated incident connected to an assault that occurred Sunday evening. One male is in custody, identified as Ronald Maxwell (39) of Clifton, Colorado. He has been remanded into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
- Criminal Attempt of Murder in the First Degree, Felony 1
- Menacing – Real/Simulated Weapon, Felony 5
The investigation is ongoing and information will be released as it is available and appropriate. Mr. Maxwell’s mugshot was not available at the time of this release.
