CLIFTON, Colo., June 24, 2025 — The intersection of E Road and 32 ½ Road will close to all through traffic July 1st, as Mesa County launches Phase 2 of the 32 ½ Road and Clifton Campus Roadway Improvement Project. The shutdown is expected to last several weeks until Phase 2 is finished later this summer.

During the closure, E Road will be blocked between 32 ½ Road and 33 Road. Drivers should follow the posted detours; a map is available at mesacounty.us/news. Construction crews will work Monday–Friday, 7 a.m.–6 p.m.

Phase 2 will add a single-lane roundabout at the E Road / 32 ½ Road junction and extend 32 ½ Road south to D 7/8 Road, boosting safety and traffic flow in the Clifton area.

The three-stage project began earlier this year:

  • Phase 1 (underway): Replace the bridge over the Grand Valley Irrigation Canal on 32 ½ Road just south of Friendship Drive.
  • Phase 2 (starts July 1): Build the roundabout and roadway extension at E Road and 32 ½ Road.
  • Phase 3 (next): Widen D ¾ Road between East Chukar Way and West Chukar Way and add a sidewalk linking Rocky Mountain Elementary Park to the existing path west of Mountain Vista Drive.

All phases are scheduled for completion by October 2025.
