
Sheriff is out with a vehicle that fled from deputies in the area of I-70B and 31 1/2 Rd in Clifton. Incident started in the area of F Road and 30 Road, continued to F Rd & I-70B, then southbound in the wrong lanes ending near 31 1/2 Rd. Sheriff has the vehicle occupant(s) in custody. Two sheriff vehicles were crashed and disabled during the pursuit.

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – On June 25 at approximately 12:41 a.m., a Deputy with the Mesa County Sheriffโs Office attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling at an estimated 75 miles per hour in the area of 30 Road and Patterson Road in Grand Junction. The vehicle failed to comply with the traffic stop and began eluding from the Deputy at a high rate of speed.
As a second Deputy entered the area to aid in locating the suspect vehicle, the suspect vehicle drove head on towards the Deputy at a high rate of speed, swerving just before striking the Deputyโs vehicle. This action prompted a pursuit of the suspect vehicle as it continued at speeds of 75 miles per hour. With the aid of multiple Deputies, the vehicle was stopped via precision immobilization technique (PIT) in the area of I-70B and Warrior Way.
Following the PIT maneuver, Deputies took the suspect into custody without further incident. The suspect has been identified as Dylan Upchurch (24) of Grand Junction, CO. Upchurch was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and is being held on the following charges:
- Speeding 25-39 MPH Over Limit, Traffic Offense Class 1 Misdemeanor
- Vehicular Eluding, Felony 5
- Aggravated Driving with Revoked License/Habitual Offender/Commits DUI, DWAI, Eluding, Reckless Driving, Misdemeanor 1
- Assault 2-Peace Officer/Intent Serious Bodily Injury, Felony 4
- Criminal Attempt, Felony 5
- Failure to Stop at Sign, Traffic
- Failure to Stop at Sign, Traffic
- Failure to Stop at Sign, Traffic
- Reckless Driving, Traffic Offense Class 2 Misdemeanor
- Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance, Drug Misdemeanor 1
- Criminal Mischief $5,000 or more, less than $20,000, Felony 5
- Drove Vehicle on Wrong Side of Divided Highway, Class A Traffic Infraction
- Resisting Arrest, Misdemeanor 2
- Obstructing a Peace Officer, Firefighter or Emergency Medical Personnel, Misdemeanor 2
- Failed to Stop for Traffic Control Signal at Place Required, Class A Traffic Infraction
Upchurch was also identified as part of an incident with the Grand Junction Police Department shortly before the pursuit began.
