Disturbance involving two males fighting in front of Walmart on North Avenue and 28 3/4 Road. The male victim is bleeding heavily requiring medical attention. Multiple officers have the male suspect detained in the area of Texas Roadhouse on North Avenue. Officers are speaking with witnesses. Victim at one point was reportedly unconscious.


GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. โ€” On July 3, 2025, at around 4:10 p.m., Grand Junction Police Department officers responded to a reported assault in progress at the Walmart located at 2881 North Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered that two men had been involved in a physical altercation in the northwest corner of the storeโ€™s property. During the incident, one man assaulted and kicked the other before fleeing the scene on foot.

The victim sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department for treatment. Following a search of the area, police located the suspect, identified as 44-year-old Cody Tidwell, hiding under a bush near a nearby restaurant. Tidwell initially resisted arrest but was safely taken into custody.

Tidwell was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on charges of Second-Degree Assault, Resisting Arrest, and Obstruction. Authorities believe this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation remains active, and no further details are available at this time.
