CLIFTON, Colo. — A Grand Junction man is in custody after Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies captured him just minutes after a bank in the 500 block of 32 Road was robbed Wednesday afternoon.
According to a Sheriff’s Office press release, the holdup occurred at about 4:56 p.m. on July 2. Witnesses reported the suspect fled on foot with approximately $10,000 in cash and entered a neighboring business. Deputies arrived within minutes, located the man hiding in a restroom, and arrested him without incident as he exited.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Awbery, 45, was found carrying a “large amount of cash” believed to be the stolen funds. The entire incident—from the initial call to the arrest—was contained in roughly 10 minutes, authorities said.
Awbery was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on charges of Robbery (F4) and Theft $5,000–$20,000 From a Building (F5). No injuries were reported, and investigators did not disclose whether a weapon was used.
The Sheriff’s Office stated the investigation remains open and active. Anyone with additional information is urged to contact the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
