Mesa County Approves New Grinder for Compost Facility

Mesa County Commissioners have approved a $776,000 purchase order for a new horizontal grinder during their July 1 public hearing. This equipment is essential for the Mesa County Organic Materials Composting Facility, which processes nearly 45,000 cubic yards of yard waste annually into Mesa Magic Compost. The new grinder will replace the facility’s 13-year-old machine, which is reaching the end of its operational life, leading to increased maintenance costs and reduced efficiency. Grinding is a key step in producing high-quality compost that improves soil structure and supports water conservation for local residents. The facility, located at 3071 US-50, is open for drop-offs and compost purchases from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.
