Deputy is out with an erratic suspect that pointed a shotgun at law enforcement near the De Beque Country Store on Minter Ave. The deputy has the suspect at gunpoint, and the suspect has the shotgun aimed at himself. Additional law enforcement is dispatched from Palisade and Mesa County Sheriff. Two individuals that know the suspect are attempting to talk to him and deescalate the situation.
A shelter-in-place has been issued for the area around the Country Store. SWAT team has been activated and is in route to De Beque.
Suspect is Charles White and he has active warrants. Law enforcement mentioned that the suspect might possibly be suffering from terminal cancer.
Update: as of 6:30 p.m. the incident is still ongoing.
Update 9:00 p.m.: Sheriff has stated “There is no longer a threat to the community. However, we ask that the public please continue to avoid the area.”
