Clifton, CO — Mesa County has officially acquired 31.1 acres of land in Clifton from the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), following a land conveyance process authorized under federal legislation.

The land, located between Interstate 70 and the Grand Valley Canal northeast of 32 Road, was transferred to the County on August 24. The transfer was made possible through the Clifton Opportunities Now for Vibrant Economic Yields (CONVEY) Act, a law signed on January 4, 2025.

Originally used by the Bureau of Reclamation for canal operations since 1908, the parcel was later managed by the BLM. It was identified for disposal due to management challenges and limited public access. Following the process outlined by the CONVEY Act, the BLM sold the land to Mesa County at fair market value for $31,050, as determined by the Department of the Interior’s Appraisal and Valuation Services Office.

Mesa County officials state the property will be used to support economic development initiatives in the Clifton area. Planning for future use is expected to begin soon.
