GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. — On August 31, 2025, officers from the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a report of felony menacing at the Columbine Motel on 2824 North Avenue around 1:25 p.m. A 43-year-old man, identified as Melvin Johnson, was reported to have threatened his roommate with a knife. The victim managed to escape to safety.
Johnson refused to cooperate with law enforcement and barricaded himself inside the motel room. After a period of communication with officers, he was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported during the event.
Johnson was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on charges of felony menacing, obstruction, and resisting arrest. Authorities have stated that this was an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community.
