County Unveils 2026 Budget, Focus on Infrastructure and Staff

Mesa County released its proposed fiscal year 2026 budget on October 7 during an administrative public hearing, emphasizing investments in infrastructure, employee support, and long-term planning. The budget totals $240.6 million, a 3.7% decrease from the 2025 adopted budget, with a net budget of $208.7 million after deductions. Key allocations include $27 million for road and bridge projects, such as improvements to 38 Road, 29 Road, Vega Road, and Orchard Avenue, alongside countywide surface treatments and the creation of a Preservation Group for proactive maintenance. Capital investments feature $3 million for HVAC replacements, $2 million for asset preservation, and $1.7 million for Justice Center renovation designs.

The county also plans to realign pay scales to remain competitive and retain talent. Mesa County Administrator Todd Hollenbeck highlighted the budget’s balance of immediate needs and future planning, noting investments in both employees and critical infrastructure. The proposed General Fund includes $90.5 million in revenue and $98.6 million in appropriations.
