
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – On October 15, 2025, a routine traffic stop by the Grand Junction Police Department near North Avenue and 28 1/2 Road resulted in a significant drug seizure and the arrest of a 29-year-old man. At approximately 1:30 p.m., officers discovered 1.42 pounds of MDMA, 112 grams of cocaine, multiple firearms, ammunition, and items resembling explosive devices during the stop. The Grand Junction Bomb Squad was called to assess the suspected explosives, which were later determined to be fake.
The driver, identified as John Leishman, was arrested and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute controlled substances, unlawful possession of controlled substances, possession of a hoax explosive device, and various traffic-related offenses such as driving on a suspended license and displaying a fictitious plate.
Authorities have stated that this incident is believed to be isolated, with no ongoing threat to public safety. No further information has been released at this time.
