Palisade Police: Arrest Made After Stabbing on Iowa Avenue

PALISADE, Colo. — Palisade Police officers responded to the 900 block of Iowa Avenue at approximately 4:57 p.m. on Oct. 18, 2025, for a report from a man who said he had been assaulted and stabbed. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of multiple stab and knife-related injuries, police said.

Following an investigation, officers identified Johnathan Schimpf as a suspect. He was arrested and booked into the Mesa County Jail on the following charges:

  • Assault in the Second Degree (with a deadly weapon)
  • Felony Menacing

In a separate case, Schimpf was also arrested on Aug. 31, 2025, on a fugitive warrant from another jurisdiction, according to county booking records.

Police said another adult male involved in the incident, Alfonso Avila-Frias, was contacted and treated for injuries. He was also arrested on an unrelated warrant and transported to the Mesa County Jail.
