Accidental shooting reported on Highway 141 in the Cactus Park area. Caller told dispatch a gun may have misfired and that a 10-year-old male was struck in the shoulder and was bleeding heavily.
Law enforcement and EMS were dispatched; officers were asked to attempt an intercept near the Gateway area and Junction with units responding with lights and sirens.
Vehicle was met by deputies at mile marker 137 on Highway 141 between Gateway and Whitewater. The deputies are reporting the juvenile has a gunshot wound to the armpit area and they are administering aid. CareFlight is also dispatched.
Responders are reporting the juvenile is awake and oriented, currently with a strong pulse. EMS is arriving on scene.

Update: The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement stating “The victim was brought by emergency medical responders to an area hospital for treatment. Due to the age of the victim, no further information is available. The incident is currently under investigation. Further information will be provided if and when appropriate and available.”
