
A 32-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after reportedly assaulting Grand Junction Police officers who attempted to detain him during a shoplifting investigation at the Walmart on North Avenue.
Officers responded to the store at 2881 North Avenue around 7:45 a.m. on December 23, 2025, after receiving a report of a theft in progress. When officers contacted the suspect, identified as Lee Reed, he allegedly became physically combative and assaulted the officers.

Reed was taken into custody and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. He was booked on his existing warrants along with the following additional charges:
- 2nd Degree Assault (2 counts)
- Theft
- Trespassing
- Obstruction
- Resisting Arrest
- Possession of a Schedule I/II Illegal Substance
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
During the incident, one Grand Junction Police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
