
GRAND JUNCTION, CO — The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has released the identity of the driver killed in a two-vehicle collision earlier this week on Highway 6 & 50.
Larry Schneider, 74, of Grand Junction, died from injuries sustained in the crash that occurred on the late afternoon of Monday, February 2, 2026.
At approximately 5:00 p.m. on Monday, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to the crash located west of the intersection of 24 Road and Highway 6 & 50 (I-70 Business Loop).
According to preliminary investigations, Schneider was driving eastbound when his vehicle veered into oncoming traffic, colliding with another vehicle. Early reports from witnesses at the scene described a blue sedan crossing the center line and striking a westbound Jeep.
Mr. Schneider was transported to a local hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The driver of the second vehicle was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
The Coroner’s Office has completed an autopsy and determined that Schneider’s death was directly related to the injuries sustained in the accident. The crash remains under active investigation by local authorities.
