Two Arrested in Child Sexual Assault Investigation

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — Two Grand Junction residents are in custody facing felony charges in connection with a child sexual assault investigation.

On February 18, 2026, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested Paul Obien, 43, and Ashley Obien, 35. Both individuals were booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility without incident.

According to investigators, Paul Obien was identified as the suspect in the sexual assault incidents. He is currently being held on a $250,000 cash-only bond on the following charges:

  • Sexual Assault on a Child by One in a Position of Trust (5 counts, Felony 4)
  • Sexual Assault on a Child – Pattern of Abuse (5 counts, Felony 4)

Ashley Obien was charged after investigators determined that statements she made contradicted evidence related to the case. She is being held on a $50,000 cash-only bond for:

  • Attempt to Influence a Public Servant (Felony 4)
