Mesa County Sheriff Details Recent Arrests

MESA COUNTY, CO — The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office has released a summary of several notable arrests made by deputies between late February and early March.

Loma Burglary Arrest

  • On February 28, 2026, just before 10 p.m., deputies responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 1200 block of 14 Road in Loma.
  • A homeowner detained the suspect, 35-year-old Justin Carmichael, until law enforcement arrived.
  • Carmichael, who was suspected to be under the influence of an illegal substance, was medically cleared and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on a probation violation and First Degree Trespass.

Gateway Area Trespassing and DUI

  • Shortly after midnight on March 1, 2026, deputies responded to a trespassing incident on Highway 141 in the Gateway area.
  • Russell Casto, 44, of Whitewater, who was known to the residents, allegedly refused to leave the property and was reported to have done “doughnuts” in the roadway and driveway prior to deputies arriving.
  • Deputies located suspected alcohol in his vehicle. Casto faces several charges, including Attempted First Degree Trespass, DUI, Reckless Driving, and Driving Without a Valid License.

Traffic Stop Leads to Impersonation Charges

  • On the morning of March 1, 2026, a traffic stop for improperly placed registration stickers near 30 ¼ Road and Colorado Avenue in Grand Junction led to the arrest of 39-year-old Autumn Randall.
  • Randall initially provided a false Colorado ID card and was found to be a habitual traffic offender driving with a revoked license.
  • She was booked on numerous charges, including Criminal Impersonation, False Reporting of Identifying Information, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Aggravated Driving with a Revoked License, and three outstanding warrants.

Narcotics Seized in Mesa Avenue Traffic Stop

  • On March 3, 2026, just before 9 a.m., deputies conducted a traffic stop near 2900 Mesa Avenue in Grand Junction.
  • A search resulted in the discovery of nearly 170 grams of suspected methamphetamine—with an estimated street value of $3,500—along with drug paraphernalia and items consistent with the sale of narcotics.
  • The passenger, Michael Chambers, 27, was booked on a Class 1 Felony charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute/Manufacture, as well as Resisting Arrest and Obstructing a Peace Officer.
  • The driver, Charlayna Bustos-Campos, 28, was booked on charges including Resisting Arrest, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Driving Under Restraint.

Clifton Felony Menacing Incident

  • At approximately 9:45 p.m. on March 3, 2026, deputies responded to a reported neighbor dispute in the 500 block of Garland Avenue in Clifton.
  • George Cyr, 42, was arrested without incident on two counts of Felony Menacing involving a real or simulated weapon.
