Man Arrested with Over 80 Grams of Fentanyl

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 50-year-old Grand Junction man is facing high-level felony drug distribution charges after deputies discovered significant quantities of fentanyl and methamphetamine during an arrest on an outstanding warrant.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. on March 11, 2026, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies observed a male with an active arrest warrant outside a residence in the 300 block of Clarinet Lane. Deputies successfully detained the individual, identified as Abel Nunez, 50.

During an initial search of Nunez, deputies located a bag containing a crystalline substance on his person. A subsequent search of a vehicle belonging to Nunez yielded over 82 grams of fentanyl powder and over 12 grams of methamphetamine. Deputies also found items consistent with drug distribution and use.

Nunez was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Controlled Substance – Distribute Fentanyl > 50G (Drug Felony 1)
  • Controlled Substance – Distribution – Methamphetamine/Heroin/Cathinones – 7-112G (Drug Felony 2)
  • Controlled Substance – Distribute Fentanyl < 4G (Drug Felony 3)
  • Possession of Schedule I/II Controlled Substance (Two Counts, Drug Felony 4)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Drug Petty Offense)
