Woman Faces Dozens of Forgery Charges

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 22-year-old woman is facing dozens of charges related to forgery, identity theft, and attempted theft after allegedly trying to cash a fraudulent check on Thursday morning.

At approximately 11:30 a.m. on March 12, 2026, Grand Junction Police officers responded to a report of a fraud in progress at the Alpine Bank located at 2424 Patterson Road. A bank employee reported that an adult female had attempted to cash a large, fraudulent check before leaving the premises.

Officers quickly located the suspect, identified as Valencia Walker, 22, and took her into custody. She was transported and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:

  • Forgery Check/Commercial Instrument (30 counts)
  • Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument (15 counts)
  • Fraud-Identity Theft with the Intent to Defraud (15 counts)
  • Theft- $2,000-$5,000 – All Other (Attempted – two counts)
  • Theft – $5,000-$20,000 – All Other (Attempted – two counts)
  • Theft – $20,000-$100,000 – All Other (Attempted)
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence – Destroy

The Grand Junction Police Department credited the attentiveness and quick reporting by bank employees for helping officers respond rapidly and resolve the situation safely.
