Teen Arrested After Domestic Assault

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 17-year-old male is facing more than a dozen charges, including strangulation, motor vehicle theft, and DUI, following a domestic assault on Wednesday night.

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on March 18, 2026, Grand Junction Police officers responded to a reported assault in the 500 block of 28 3/4 Road. Investigators determined that a verbal dispute between a juvenile male and an adult female had escalated into a physical altercation.

The juvenile, who was suspected to be intoxicated, allegedly assaulted the woman during the dispute. The Grand Junction Fire Department transported the female victim to a local hospital for the evaluation of unknown injuries.

The 17-year-old was arrested and transported to the Department of Youth Services. In accordance with the Colorado Open Records Act, the juvenile’s identity will not be released by authorities. He was booked on the following charges:

  • 2nd Degree Assault with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury by Strangulation
  • 3rd Degree Assault
  • Domestic Violence
  • Theft $300–$1,000
  • Obstruction of Telephone Service
  • Criminal Mischief $300–$1,000
  • 2nd Degree Motor Vehicle Theft
  • DUI
  • Illegal Possession or Consumption of Alcohol
  • Violating a Protection Order
  • Menacing – Misdemeanor
  • Driving with a Revoked License
  • Criminal Possession of a Financial Transaction Device

Police believe this to be an isolated incident, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Following the incident, the Grand Junction Police Department issued a reminder to residents that domestic disputes can escalate quickly, urging anyone experiencing domestic violence to seek help and contact local law enforcement, or call 911 in an emergency.
