GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 21-year-old Grand Junction man was arrested Sunday on a felony sexual assault charge following a two-year investigation and the return of final DNA evidence.
On March 29, 2026, investigators with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Malachi Brenner, 21, without incident.
The arrest stems from an incident reported on March 24, 2024, when deputies responded to a sexual assault in unincorporated Mesa County. Following an initial interview with the victim and the collection of DNA evidence, the case was turned over to Sheriff’s Office investigators.
After an in-depth investigation and the receipt of the final DNA test results, investigators officially obtained a warrant for Brenner’s arrest on Friday, March 27, 2026.
Brenner was transported and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charge:
