GRAND JUNCTION, CO — The Grand Junction Fire Department made quick work of a backyard fire late Thursday morning after multiple 9-1-1 callers reported individuals attempting to put out the flames with water.

At approximately 11:26 a.m., crews were dispatched to the 200 block of Red Mesa Heights. Callers indicated the fire was burning along a fence line but was not immediately threatening any nearby structures.

Out of an abundance of caution, the fire department responded with a full structure fire assignment. Upon arrival, first responders quickly extinguished the blaze, which allowed the additional responding units to be released shortly thereafter.

No injuries were reported during the incident. The official origin and cause of the fire remain under active investigation.

With summer weather conditions bringing hot, dry, and windy days, fire officials are reminding the community that fires can spread rapidly and unpredictably. The Grand Junction Fire Department urges residents to use caution when attempting to extinguish a fire themselves and to dial 9-1-1 at the first sign that it may be getting out of control.
