
GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 30-year-old man was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly fleeing from officers at a high rate of speed, according to the Grand Junction Police Department.
On April 9, 2026, at approximately 6:40 p.m., Grand Junction police officers were on routine patrol near 28 1/2 Road and Texas Avenue when a Mesa County Sheriff’s deputy alerted them to a vehicle parked in the roadway. The vehicle was suspected of having previously eluded law enforcement.
As officers approached the scene, the vehicle accelerated and fled the area at a high rate of speed. Working in coordination with the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, officers later located the suspect’s vehicle abandoned in the 1200 block of North 23rd Street.

A short time later, officers located the suspected driver, identified as 30-year-old Brenden Wederath, and took him into custody without incident.
Wederath was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:
- Vehicular Eluding
- Speeding 40 MPH or More Over
- Obstructing a Peace Officer
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device
- Failure to Stop for a Red Light
- Displayed Expired Temporary Permit
The Grand Junction Police Department expressed its appreciation to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in locating and apprehending the suspect.
