Shooting, E Columbine Ave & N Maple St

A possibly suicidal male reportedly fired a weapon into a vehicle about 3:32 p.m. near the Old Fruita Middle School and the area of East Columbine Avenue. Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies and Fruita Police responded after multiple callers reported shots fired; ambulance crews were advised to stage at Station 31.

Callers described the suspect as a white male in his 60s, about 5’10 to 6′, last seen wearing a green hat, gray shirt and shorts, and reported he was armed with a 9mm and had fired several rounds. Deputies reported bullet holes in a caller’s vehicle. No injuries were reported in the live radio traffic.

The suspect also made comments about harming law enforcement. Colorado State Patrol is also dispatched.

Update: 4:15 p.m.: Fruita Police have issued a statement they are attempting to contact the armed suspect in the area of E Columbine Avenue and N Ash Street.

Update: 6:30 p.m.: Law enforcement are still actively responding to the incident near the 600 block of Columbine Avenue in Fruita. They ask that residents do not attempt to enter the area.
