GRAND JUNCTION, CO — The Grand Junction Police Department is investigating a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 70 that sent multiple people to the hospital Friday afternoon.

On Friday, May 8, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers responded to a reported collision in the westbound lanes of I-70 near the 26 1/2 Road overpass.

Investigators determined two westbound vehicles collided, causing one vehicle to roll onto its roof while the other came to rest in the center median. Debris from the collision also damaged a third vehicle traveling in the eastbound lanes.

Both drivers and multiple passengers were transported to a local hospital by the Grand Junction Fire Department. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.

A small roadside grass fire ignited by the crash was quickly extinguished by a tow truck driver before it could spread.

The cause of the crash remains under active investigation, with authorities looking into reckless driving as a possible contributing factor.
