
GARFIELD COUNTY, CO — Westbound Interstate 70 is closed for an extended period following a fatal crash involving a semi-truck that occurred around 6:00 a.m. between Parachute and De Beque.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), the single-vehicle crash occurred between Mile Point 72 (West Parachute) and Mile Point 65.42, approximately one mile east of the De Beque area. CDOT is reporting the crash resulted in one fatality.
Westbound traffic is currently being diverted onto the frontage road at the West Parachute exit (Exit 72).
The De Beque Fire Protection District is urging drivers to use caution, stay alert, and expect delays in the area. Authorities are specifically asking motorists to maintain safe speeds to prevent secondary crashes caused by inattentive driving.
