Suspect Arrested After Threatening Residents in Burglary

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 29-year-old man was arrested late Friday night after allegedly breaking into a home and threatening the returning residents with a hammer and a butane torch.

On May 8, 2026, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Grand Junction Police Department officers responded to a reported burglary in progress in the 400 block of West Niagara Circle.

According to investigators, the male homeowner arrived to find the residence’s front door open. An adult male suspect then exited the home armed with a hammer and a butane torch, threatening the homeowner and a female passenger who had remained inside a vehicle. The victims were able to safely leave the area while officers responded to the scene.

Officers arrived and quickly detained the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Tristan Reno. Reno was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on multiple outstanding warrants, along with the following charges:

  • First-Degree Burglary
  • Menacing with a Real/Simulated Weapon (Two Counts)
  • Criminal Mischief – $300 to $1,000 (Two Counts)
  • Domestic Violence
