A brush fire was reported around 11:41 a.m. on the west side of Highway 50 at mile marker 53. Mesa County Fire Authority units, including a brush truck, were dispatched.
Dispatchers received two separate calls reporting visible smoke and flames; callers described the fire as smaller than a football field. Bystanders with fire extinguishers helped suppress the fire until fire crews arrived.
