
MESA COUNTY, CO — A months-long, multi-agency wiretap investigation into drug trafficking organizations in western Colorado has resulted in more than 20 arrests and the seizure of massive quantities of fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
The Western Colorado Drug Task Force (WCDTF), working alongside the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), and the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s Office, initiated the wiretap operation between late 2025 and early 2026. Detectives successfully targeted individuals identified as major sources of supply for illegal narcotics distributed throughout Mesa County.
The multi-jurisdictional operation resulted in the seizure of firearms, eight vehicles, approximately $117,000 in cash, and illegal narcotics with an estimated street value of $450,000. Confiscated drugs included more than 10,400 fentanyl pills, 62.6 pounds of methamphetamine, and 13.11 pounds of cocaine.
Key arrests in the ongoing investigation include:

- Lester Miranda-Davis, 33: Arrested in Denver and booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility for Distribution/Manufacture/Possession with Intent (Class 1 Drug Felony).

- Melvin Hunsberger, 50: Arrested near North 22nd Street and Chipeta Avenue in Grand Junction. He was booked on multiple charges, including Special Circumstances Conspiracy to Distribute/Manufacture/Sell (Class 1 Drug Felony), Distribution/Manufacture/Possession with Intent (Class 1 Drug Felony), Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Vehicular Eluding.

- Travis Schultz, 37: Arrested in Utah on multiple drug-related charges.
Sixteen additional individuals were arrested on various drug-related charges in connection with the operation:

The WCDTF thanked several state and local law enforcement partners for their assistance, including the Colorado State Patrol, Moffat County Sheriff’s Office, and Grand County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities stated the investigation remains active and ongoing, with additional arrests pending.
