
GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 49-year-old man was arrested Wednesday afternoon following reports of a multi-day domestic assault involving strangulation and a deadly weapon at a Shoshone Street residence.
On May 20, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 500 block of Shoshone Street regarding reports of an assault that had occurred over the course of several days.
Upon arrival, deputies safely removed an adult female from the home. Investigators successfully communicated with the suspect, who eventually agreed to exit the residence without incident. During the subsequent investigation, deputies located multiple firearms inside the home.

The suspect, identified as Randy Abbott, 49, was taken into custody and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility. He was booked on the following charges:
- Second-Degree Assault with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury by Strangulation (Class 4 Felony)
- Second-Degree Assault with Injury – Deadly Weapon (Two Counts, Class 4 Felony)
- Habitual Domestic Violence Offender After 3 Previous Convictions (Class 5 Felony)
- Menacing – Real/Simulated Weapon (Two Counts, Class 5 Felony)
- Third-Degree Assault (Class 1 Misdemeanor)
- Domestic Violence
