Teen Arrested for Orchard Ave Domestic Assault

GRAND JUNCTION, CO — A 19-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday morning after allegedly strangling a woman and threatening her with a knife in the presence of an infant.

On May 20, at approximately 1:30 a.m., Mesa County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a reported assault in the 2900 block of Orchard Avenue.

According to investigators, the suspect, identified as Brendon Verley, 19, engaged in threatening behavior with a knife while an infant was present and strangled an adult female victim. Verley fled the residence before deputies arrived at the scene.

Authorities later located and arrested Verley in the 1500 block of Poplar Drive. He was transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility and booked on the following charges:

  • Second-Degree Assault with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury by Strangulation (Class 4 Felony)
  • Child Abuse – Knowingly/Reckless, No Injury (Class 2 Misdemeanor)
  • Domestic Violence
