GRAND JUNCTION, CO — The Dos Rios Fire, which burned approximately five acres, is now fully extinguished and classified as “out and cold” following a multi-agency response. Authorities have also corrected the fire’s official location to Railroad Island, updating earlier reports that placed it on Watson Island.
Following overnight monitoring by a Grand Junction Fire Department brush truck and a two-person crew, overhaul operations continued Wednesday to ensure the fire was completely suppressed. Crews navigated rugged terrain across several separated areas of burned vegetation to locate and extinguish remaining hot spots.
Agencies participating in the final mop-up operations included:
- Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Wildland Fire Team: Hand crew and brush truck
- Bureau of Land Management (BLM): 20-person hand crew
- Grand Junction Fire Department: Wildland crew and brush truck
The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office Wildland Fire Team has cleared the scene. GJFD and BLM personnel are expected to remain in the area until approximately 5:00 p.m. to demobilize resources, conduct equipment maintenance, and ensure all operations are safely concluded.
The origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation. Officials note that smoky conditions may persist in the area throughout the day.
Drone Safety Reminder:
Authorities remind the public to keep privately owned drones away from active fire scenes. Drones are strictly prohibited over or near emergency incidents, as they create serious safety risks and can interfere with critical operations.
